The Little Beet, a fast casual healthy restaurant, has been the Chef Partner with PS 36 over the past three years. But if you were a fourth or fifth grader in the last two years, you were in for an extra special treat. Last year, WITS Chef Andrea Sperling worked with The Little Beet Founder and Managing Partner Andy Duddleston and his team at to set up field trip visits to the midtown restaurant, expanding upon the cafeteria visits the team had done in the first year of partnership. The students had the opportunity not only to tour a professional kitchen, but also to use their new cooking skills to create items from The Little Beet’s menu, like a beet quinoa salad and shaved brussels sprouts salad, before feasting on a healthy lunch spread. By bringing the children out of the school and into the kitchen, Chef Andrea was able to facilitate a whole new experience for the children and teachers that included more hands-on components. In addition, even more members of The Little Beet team had an opportunity to engage in community outreach and expand their skills by preparing and leading lessons for a classroom of children.
