In collaboration with FoodCorps, the Whole Kids Foundation is accepting applications for the School Garden Grant Program, which supports school garden projects that help students learn about complex topics such as nutrition and health, sustainability and conservation, food systems, and community awareness. The grants can run up to $2,000; the link for more information is below.
The dateline for applications is October 31, 2013.
Kids in Motion - NYC Parks
Elementary school-aged children often gain weight over the summer due to a lack of structured, active, outdoor play. Kids In Motion gets children in NYC “off the couch” and into playgrounds to get fit while having fun. Sedentary children are likely to become sedentary adults, but by introducing children to physical activity in a fun, non-competitive environment, Kids in Motion can help them achieve and maintain an active lifestyle through adulthood. Kids in Motion staff (Playground Associates) lead four to seven hours of free activities for children per day, including organized sports, games, fitness demos, guided walks, board games, water games and more!
When you register your school garden with Grow to Learn you become eligible to receive materials and expert assistance from GreenThumb, and can also apply for a Grow to Learn Mini-Grant of between $500 and $2,000 to start or expand your school garden. Please submit your application by November 1, 2013.
For help with grant-writing and garden-planning, please encourage your contacts to attend a workshop on 9/26, 9/28, 10/3 or 10/8 at 51 Chambers St. RSVP and more details on our grant page.
Also, Grow to Learn is hiring a School Outreach Coordinator. Please find position description here. We are hoping for someone with networks among the community/school gardeners in one of our priority regions—South Bronx, Central and East Harlem or Central Brooklyn.
