WELLNESS IN THE SCHOOLS

creating healthier places in which to learn

White House Visit

On June 4th, 2010, Michelle Obama welcomed prominent chefs from around the country to the White House for the announcement of “Chefs Move to Schools.”  The First Lady’s initiative asks the nation's chefs to partner with their local schools to revamp lunch menus.

WITS serves as a model of a local Chefs Move to Schools initiative, having already placed chefs in 19 local schools.  The organization's founders and board members are thrilled that Mrs. Obama is shedding light on this issue and helping facilitate change. After her announcement, Bill Telepan joined 14 other chefs to harvest vegetables and fruit from the White House garden, and prepare a small meal with children from a nearby school. This was truly a full-circle moment for the WITS team.

WITS is excited to be part of a significant turning point in the nationwide quest toward healthier schools.

"I love this program! We really need to help our kids eat more nutritious foods, and lunch is the most important meal in their day. So let's continue having this program in our school. Thanks!"
